Throwback Thursday : Marlon Brando

Lauded by many in the movie industry as Hollywood’s original rebel, Marlon Brando played by his own rules, both on-screen and in his personal life. His appearance in 1953’s The Wild One helped solidify his bad-boy image, and his strikingly good looks coupled with his ability to mesmerize audiences with his performance quickly gained him notoriety as a sex symbol. Soon, teenagers everywhere wanted to dress like Marlon Brando, talk like him and imitate his brooding mannerisms.
Brando, who we famously know for his roles in The Godfather, Julius Caesar, Last Tango in Paris, and the one that gave him the big break, A Streetcar named Desire. Brando was known to be a mimic from youth. He developed an ability to absorb the mannerisms of kids he played with and display them dramatically while staying in character. After spending his early days in Nebraska, Brando moved to New York to learn acting.

In spite of his skills, Brando was typically a bad boy in real life too. Brando established a pattern of erratic, insubordinate behavior in the few shows he’d been in. He was typically from the Stanislavski System of acting, which focused on believable and methodical acting. Brando’s Acting career started with Broadway in the bittersweet drama I Remember Mama, playing the son of Mady Christians.
He was hired for the role in A streetcar named desire, the play, in spite of his poor show in the auditions. He then went on to play the role in the movie of the same name. He was then looked as a sex symbol in Hollywood. His styling was the one all Men wanted to carry.

Brando then went to give the biggest hits of his career in the movies in Viva Zapata, Julius Caesar and the Wild one.
His personal life also kept him in the limelight constantly, Marlon Brando was known for his tumultuous personal life and his large number of wives, girlfriends and children. He was the father to sixteen known children, three of whom were adopted. Some sources claim he fathered as many as 17 children or more. He was also known to date Marilyn Monroe and many more women.

Brando was one of the most versatile actors, and his role in Godfather is considered to be the best.
As a style icon, Brando was known for his leather jackets, suits and the way he carried them all. He was an icon that led a generation! His style and his Aura is timeless. We see his legacy being continued for ever and ever! Our grand salutes to one man who ruled the time he lived!
