Throwback Thursday : Meryl Streep
Considered by many as the greatest living actress, Meryl Streep has been inspiring one and all. With 19 nominations for the academy awards, Streep has the most academy award nominations in history. She also has 29 golden globe nominations to her name which again is a record in itself.
Meryl’s early performing ambitions leaned toward the opera. She became interested in acting while a student at Vassar and upon graduation she enrolled in the Yale School of Drama. She gave an outstanding performance in her first film role, Julia (1977), and the next year she was nominated for her first Oscar for her role in The Deer Hunter (1978). She went on to win the Academy Award for her performances in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) and Sophie’s Choice (1982), in which she gave a heart-wrenching portrayal of an inmate mother in a Nazi death camp.
Streep has acted in several noteworth films like The French Lieutenant’s Woman , Silkwood , Out of Africa , Ironweed , A Cry in the Dark , Postcards from the Edge , The Bridges of Madison County , One True Thing , Music of the Heart , Adaptation , The Devil Wears Prada , Doubt , Julie & Julia , August: Osage County , The Iron Lady and Into the Wood.
Meryl has always been a fascinating actress to watch. She has turned heads as she has walked down any platform. Be it fashion magazine covers, or be it representing brands, Streep has done it all. She is one face that the world will never forget. But what’s fascinating with her is that most of her life, she has been scandal free. She has been one star that has not been a fixture in tabloids! Well of course, in an industry where divorces and marriages are such a common thing, Streep has been married to her husband, Don Grummer, for the last 35 years.
She may be an unwilling style icon, but there’s no denying that Meryl Streep has an innate elegance all her own. “For me, clothes are kind of character; I don’t follow fashion or understand trends,” the 16-time Oscar nominee has said. That may be, but who else wears clothing with such natural grace that they’ve inspired dozens of designers’ collections and who else but Streep could portray the ultimate Prada-wearing, fear-inducing fashion editor with such believable and transportative aplomb?
To one icon who has ruled our hearts like forever, Mery Streep will be remembered for ages to follow not only for her acting but her style, her simplicity and her beauty.
